If you are planning to immigrate to Canada through Ontario’s provincial nomination program, 2026 is a year of significant change you cannot afford to ignore.
As of May 30, 2026, all nine existing OINP nomination streams have been repealed — the largest single change to the program since it began. This includes the Human Capital Priorities, Foreign Worker, International Student, In-Demand Skills, Masters Graduate, PhD Graduate, French-Speaking Skilled Worker, Skilled Trades, and Entrepreneur streams.
What Replaces the Old Streams?
Ontario has launched the first phase of a major redesign, replacing its former stream structure with a new Ontario Workforce Priority (OWP) stream. The new stream introduces three pathways:
- Skilled workers in TEER 0–3 occupations (management, professional, technical)
- Semi-skilled workers in TEER 4–5 occupations
- Self-employed physicians
All TEER-based pathways require a full-time, permanent job offer from an Ontario employer — a condition that did not uniformly apply under the previous structure.
What Happens to Existing Applications and EOI Profiles?
Applications submitted before May 30, 2026 will continue to be assessed under the eligibility requirements in place at the time of filing. However, EOIs and job offers registered under the former streams that have not yet resulted in an invitation to apply will be automatically withdrawn. Affected registrants, employers, and representatives will receive direct notification from the Ministry.
When Does the New EOI System Open?
The Ontario Workforce Priority stream Expression of Interest system is expected to open later in summer 2026. Candidates should monitor ontario.ca for the exact opening date and application procedures.
What Should You Do Now?
This transition period creates uncertainty but also opportunity for those who are well-prepared. If you had an active EOI profile under the old streams, you will likely need to submit a new one once the redesigned system opens.
