Immigration remains one of the main tools, the Government of Canada uses to foster its continued economic growth. There are several federal schemes available for foreign nationals to immigrate to Canada. In addition, every province/territory also has the authority to implement their own programs to drive immigration to their region, filling occupations with labour shortages.
There are multiple ways by which a person can get permanent residency status in Canada. However, the process of obtaining permanent residency is complex. It is also in a state of constant change due to different foreign policy initiatives and modifications to regulations.
